The New Team India v2

Congratulations to India in winning the second test in Delhi against Sri Lanka. Good batting performance, especially in the second innings and good bowling by the ever dependable Anil Kumble made it a comprehensive win for India.

I think Sri Lanka is slumping. They seem lost, much like India looked last year. They have the talent but they just cannot put it all together. Maybe the captain needs some inspiration. Could be internal politics, could be anything. My point is that more than India winning, which it did indeed, it was Sri Lanka who lost the match.

In any case, we are off to Motera for the third match. My thoughts on the weird selection next.

Yup the batting was up to the mark and with Kumble holding his fort it was a good bowling performance as well.

Btw I've tagged you by the "Se7ven". Hope to see you fill in ;-)

SL is an inexperienced side, mostly. Take Sangakara, Atapatu and Jayawardene out, and you have no one who can really inspire. And these three are perhaps the level of Yuvraj / Laxman at best, not quite the Dravid - Sachin class!
Did you realise that the dropping of Sanath did not cause half as much furore in SL, as the dropping (earlier - not current one) of Saurav did in India? And Jayasuriya is much bigger in stature, in iconic status and relevance of role play, with respect to SL, than Ganguly has been for India. I mean, Sanath has won many a match single-handedly, and he is out of form, and he has been dropped!!

Kumble is a wicket taker in India, perhaps the only one that a captain can be sure to depend on, on Indian pitches. And his bowling can certainly run through a tail, and also through top batsmen not very comfortable with spin. I believe he needs to be there in the one-day team as well, except the present condition that each ODI team member needs to be good in at least 2 of 3 areas (Batting / Bowling / Fielding)!

Good end to the test. India convincingly won it. Now, the 3rd test is also looking like Indian domination.

SPM: No, I don't think Kumble can fit in the current one day side. He is not the best fielder in the team and granted that there is a super sub concept, I think Murali Kartik with his superior batting capability fits better.

One day cricket has become so batsman-friendly that it is almost a sacrifice trying to make Kumble play in one dayers.
