It would be very easy to say the the 'Team India' concept was bogus and just beating a hapless Sri Lankan team does not make India the world beaters. That losing to South Africa in the first one dayer proves that it was a fluke against Sri Lanka. That the joy was short-lived.
I think not. I saw most of the game. And realized some important points. Yes, the top order failed, but hey, yet again there was someone who stepped up and played the innings that the lower order could play around. Yuvraj played extremely well and first Pathan, then Dhoni and finally Agarkar and Harbajan kept their heads (for the most part) and put up a decent total. From 30-odd for 5 to get to 249 in 50 overs against a pretty good South African bowling attack showed that the spirit still exists.
And then, to keep pegging away at the batsmen, striking every now and then, making it not-so-easy for them to get to the target, also proves that the process is working. Of course, because of the early collapse, India had to sacrifice Kartik as a bowler and choose Gambhir to bat, but all it would have taken is one wicket. If Kemp had gone early in the innings or if Kallis had gone at any time, it would have made a huge difference.
Anyway, the subscription is not cancelled and I am looking forward to seeing some more games. This team India reminds me of the World Cup times.

I am glad to read this sane post. No, I did not expect any other type from you. I am just reacting to the stupid TV news snippets that I was seeing. There was a nonsense program on Star TV news doing an analysis of the game, with Sandeep Patil hee-hawing as an expert! And the bylines that kept coming (I was not concentrating that much on the content itself, as I sensed its stupidity at the outset) had words like "Greg Chappel's first mistake" and "then another..", etc. Like they made a mistake in continuing Sehwag inspite of the failures (wonder what they would have said if Sehwag had given a flying start!), another failure was to send Gambhir down the order (maan.. don't they know anything - that as super sub, he was called in ONLY because of the early wickets, and that he was a batsman), and finally why they had to sacrifice Karthik, as he would have been useful (wow, talk about hindsight wisdom).
I wonder how these guys stay in business..
You might wonder WHY I was watching that news programme. The fact was that I was interviewed and came on the same news channel, and was waiting to see if they would repeat it, as I have not seen it myself.
Now I am at a loss. Whether to feel good or bad about being on that channel! :-)
LOL. Getting interviewed by Star TV is a big thing. But in the sports area, where there are so many choices, TV channels have to compromise and bring anyone they can. Sandeep Patil is probably a case of sour grapes. He thought he could have been the next coach.
And as for their comments about Gambhir and Kartik ... if they are doing so on national TV, they have got to be ashamed of themselves.
Yes. I agree. Once they are on the Air they themselves donot know what they are talking about.
It is later, when people start quoting SP that he would realise where he was and what he was doing.
Yes, some of these guys are on TV for the first time in their lives and cannot stop chatting. But also sometimes, the media channels (pun not intended) them into the direction which could cause controversy. And you never know what is the real truth behind what these guys are saying on national television!
